About AA

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is an international fellowship requiring no membership dues or fees dedicated to helping alcoholics peer to peer in sobriety through its spiritually inclined Twelve Steps program. Non-professional, non-denominational, self-supporting and apolitical, an avowed desire to stop drinking is its sole requirement for membership.

"The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.
There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self supporting through our own contributions.
A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes.
Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety."

In AA we follow a 12-Step programme of recovery that has proven to work countless times, but it does require hard work and effort by those that follow it, but there is a way forward.

Is this a 'God thing'?

The AA programme is most definitely not a religious programme. It does require us to believe that there is a power greater that ourselves and that's easy, because for a long time that was alcohol. It was so powerful it took almost everything from us until we admitted that we needed help.
It is not a religious programme, it is a spiritual one and our reward comes from helping others to find a way to recovery.
